Hi There!

Welcome to My Red Travel Shoe and The Sound of My Echo!

My name is Orsi and I am a Hungarian living in the United States with my husband and one and a half year old puppy, Echo. Thanks for stopping by!

I came to the States a couple years ago on an athletic scholarship. I played tennis for four years and then moved to Milwaukee and survived two winters there to get my master’s degree in sport management. I loved Milwaukee, but (here is a random advice) don’t go there during winter time! I graduated in the spring of 2015 and my husband and I went back to Europe to travel around a little bit visiting Sweden, Italy, Austria, and Hungary (of course), currently we live in Arizona.

I would love to hear one fun fact about you in the comment section! 🙂

This is not a full-time travel blog! I like to think that it is a little about everything. There are days when I can barely tie my own shoe and at least once a day I trip myself (this has been constant for the past 29 years) so how could I possibly tell you how to travel the world? But I know one thing: I had the balls to go and move 9,000 km away from home when I was 19. I like to take some credit for that one (and for the fact that once I lasted 30 days without eating chocolate). I usually don’t have the balls to tell the waitress that I don’t want so much ice please and thank you (In Europe we don’t do the crazy ice thing, where it’s like: Oh, here is your ice ma’am with some soda) but moving away somehow worked out. Looking back, I wonder if someone drugged me and flew me into the States or how was I so brave. Someone probably lured me in with chocolate.

Not gonna lie, sometimes it sucks to live this far from my family. BUT!…Even though it was the hardest decision of my life, I wouldn’t do it any other way. And luckily I get to go home and visit often!

This blog is about living in a foreign country, figuring out stuff when you don’t speak the language, stumbling through the art of cooking, getting lost, being lost, feeling lost and of course the fun things too! The move changed me and matured me in a lot of ways. It also caused me extra 25 lbs in my freshman year. What’s up with those delicious breakfast burritos???

Click your heels together three times and say ‘There’s no place like home’ and you’ll be there. – The Wizard of Oz

First I started a blog so I can keep my family updated (about getting rounder and rounder), then I figured there might be others who moved away and feel lost, who miss their family each and every single day, who have to start over and have no idea how to get through the first christmas away from home. I love sharing my experience, how I evolved throughout the years, found happiness and what helped me, in hopes that it will help others too.

 Who is Echo?

Echo is our puppy. He was born in Los Angeles. Our paths have crossed in 2015 (You can read about his adoption here) and I can safely say, it was love at first sight. At least on my part. Echo didn’t give a damn, he just liked that I had treats. (In some ways, we are very similar). He became our little travel companion since then (Check out All The Places We Have Seen Together). Echo is the happiest, sweetest, kindest, smartest little pup I have ever met in my entire life and he is crazy enough to fit perfectly into our family. You will hear a lot about him in The Echo Chronicles section. He loves sharing his stories.

You can follow my journey by reading this blog, or connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, and on Instagram.
